Our Mission
Good
Dirt Radio™ reports inspiring stories about people helping to solve
environmental challenges affecting life on Earth. We share positive
environmental ideas and actions that individuals, businesses, institutions
or communities can embrace.
We offer innovative and traditional approaches to environmental
sanity, exploring subject categories limited only by lack of imagination.
Good Dirt Radio™ is an organization without political or religious
affiliation.
We welcome your ideas, stories
and feedback.
History
All good news… All the time! Such is Good Dirt Radio’s
mission: To report the positive, change-inspiring acts of common
stewardship. This optimistic idea was the brainchild of Durango
Realtor/Musician, Gary Lewin, arising from his own desire to be
a part of the needed change. After some tete-a-tete, he was enthusiastically
joined by media-master and show co-host, Tom Bartels. Through further
sharing of the vision, a board of equally environmentally-minded
members soon formed. Good Dirt Radio™ is a new voice, having aired
for the first time in February of 2004. To date, the program is
100 percent volunteer work, with members collectively researching,
interviewing and writing stories, then recording the five-minute
radio modules on-site at Lewin's Cosmix Sound Studio. The board
members and staff bring a wide variety of experiences and skills
into the mix, blending these toward the common goal. Recruitment
of experienced environmental wordsmiths to augment the writers’
pool is already underway. Good Dirt Radio™ currently plays on local
stations, but a plan to market to other Colorado public radio stations
is in the works, and the show hopes to target national markets soon
thereafter.

Good Dirt Radio Non-Profit Status Announcement
Good Dirt Radio™ is pleased to announce the recent acquisition of non-profit status!
With its non-profit corporation status in the State of Colorado, GDR has created a mutually beneficial relationship with the Community Foundation, of SW Colorado, which acts as a Federal 501(c)3 fiscal sponsor ‘umbrella’ for GDR. Grantors and donor can now support GDR while receiving a qualified tax deduction.
GDR recognizes the need to increase its programming to fit into a weekly format in order to accommodate the needs of larger stations. With its NPO status, GDR is actively seeking donations and grants from suitable donors and foundations with which to further support the development of weekly programming. While expanding from regional to national audiences, it is GDR’s goal to extend its coverage areas to help educate and share positive environmental information with more people in an effort to help create much needed change.
