Knowing that the U.S. is responsible for twenty-five percent of the world's greenhouse gas emissions and faced with the profound importance of the issue, Greg Nickels, Mayor of Seattle, and ten other mayors, decided to take action. They challenged mayors in communities across the U.S. to join Seattle in creating positive solutions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by signing on to the U.S. Mayors Climate Protection Agreement.
